World Press Freedom Day 2020 Repository

This repository contains research presented during the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) Academic Conference in The Hague, organised by UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and Leiden University. The repository consists of papers and poster presentations alongside video recordings of the conference.

The theme of the 2020 conference was ‘Safety of Journalists – Press Freedom and media capture’. Academics from across the globe presented their work and, through an interactive, online platform, shared it with fellow academics, journalists, policy-makers, legal specialists and other relevant groups. Sub themes included: safety of women journalists, local politics and the safety of journalists and safety of journalists in challenging environments. We hope that this site will provide researchers with the information they need for further research.

On behalf of the organizing committee from  Leiden University,
Prof. dr. J.C. (Jaap) de Jong,
Prof dr. R.E. (Remco) Breuker
Dr. A.W.M. (Willem) Koetsenruijter
