Professor Ralph Negrine’s research has focused on the study of political communication at a national and international level, as well as on more general areas of communication policy. His research into political communication has included both historical work (The Transformation of Political Communication, 2008, Palgrave Macmillan) as well as work that touches on international dimensions of the subject matter either in general terms (‘The "Americanization" of Political Communication: a critique' Press/Politics, 1996) or specifically in respect of individual countries (‘Turkey and the European Union: an analysis of how the press in four countries covered Turkey’s bid for accession in 2004.’ 2008, European Journal of Communication (co-authored with Kejanlioglu, B., Aissaoui, R. & Papathanassopoulos, S.).
He is currently writing a book on the media and media policy in Europe with Prof. S Papathanassopoulos, National University, Athens, and developing a project to look at the nature of media independence in Europe, and a historically informed one on the representations of refugees in the Levant between 1922 and 1957.
